CVE-2026-76418
Overview
This vulnerability is a logic error in the Remote Access SSL VPN service of Cisco Secure Firewall ASA and FTD Software. It arises specifically when secondary authentication is configured on a tunnel group, causing improper handling of authentication states. The flaw affects the SSL VPN tunnel group authentication mechanism, leading to unexpected device reloads triggered by crafted requests.
Vulnerability Description
A vulnerability in the Remote Access SSL VPN service of Cisco Secure Firewall Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software and Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense (FTD) Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause the device to reload unexpectedly, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) condition. This vulnerability is due to logic errors when secondary authentication is configured on a tunnel group. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted request when connecting to the SSL remote access VPN. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the affected device to reload, resulting in a DoS condition.
Impact
An unauthenticated remote attacker can cause the affected Cisco ASA or FTD device to reload unexpectedly, resulting in a denial of service condition. This disrupts VPN connectivity and network security enforcement, potentially causing extended service outages. No user credentials or prior access are required to exploit this vulnerability, enabling attackers to impact network availability and business operations reliant on secure remote access.
Solution
Cisco has released a security advisory (cisco-sa-asaftd-tunnel-dos-s6mgkb75) detailing updated software versions that address this vulnerability in Cisco Secure Firewall ASA and FTD Software. Administrators should apply the recommended patches as specified in the advisory. No alternative workarounds are provided; refer to Cisco's advisory for detailed patching instructions and version-specific fixes.
