CVE-2025-59528
Overview
This vulnerability is a remote code execution flaw caused by unsafe dynamic code evaluation within the FlowiseAI Flowise CustomMCP node. The root cause lies in the convertToValidJSONString function, which directly passes user-supplied input to the JavaScript Function() constructor without validation. This occurs during the parsing of the mcpServerConfig string, allowing execution of arbitrary JavaScript code with Node.js runtime privileges in version 3.0.5 of Flowise.
Vulnerability Description
Flowise is a drag & drop user interface to build a customized large language model flow. In version 3.0.5, Flowise is vulnerable to remote code execution. The CustomMCP node allows users to input configuration settings for connecting to an external MCP server. This node parses the user-provided mcpServerConfig string to build the MCP server configuration. However, during this process, it executes JavaScript code without any security validation. Specifically, inside the convertToValidJSONString function, user input is directly passed to the Function() constructor, which evaluates and executes the input as JavaScript code. Since this runs with full Node.js runtime privileges, it can access dangerous modules such as child_process and fs. This issue has been patched in version 3.0.6.
Impact
An unauthenticated remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary JavaScript code on the host running Flowise 3.0.5, leveraging full Node.js runtime privileges. This enables execution of system commands, file system manipulation, and potential lateral movement within the environment. The attack requires only network access and no user interaction, as indicated by CVSS vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N, with complete confidentiality, integrity, and availability compromise (C:H/I:H/A:H).
Solution
Users should upgrade Flowise to version 3.0.6 or later, where the unsafe use of the Function() constructor in the CustomMCP node has been removed. Refer to the GitHub security advisory GHSA-3gcm-f6qx-ff7p for detailed patch instructions and verification. No alternative mitigations or workarounds are documented; applying the vendor-provided patch is the recommended remediation.
