CVE-2025-59366
Overview
This vulnerability is an authentication bypass rooted in unintended side effects of the Samba service integration within the AiCloud feature of ASUS Router firmware. The flaw arises from improper access control enforcement in the Samba functionality, allowing unauthorized invocation of specific router functions. The affected component is the AiCloud service interfacing with Samba, which fails to validate user credentials correctly under certain conditions.
Vulnerability Description
An authentication-bypass vulnerability exists in AiCloud. This vulnerability can be triggered by an unintended side effect of the Samba functionality, potentially leading to allow execution of specific functions without proper authorization. Refer to the Security Update for ASUS Router Firmware section on the ASUS Security Advisory for more information.
Impact
An attacker can remotely invoke privileged functions on the ASUS Router without authentication, potentially manipulating device settings or accessing sensitive data managed by AiCloud. This requires no user interaction or valid credentials, allowing unauthorized control over router features. The consequence includes unauthorized administrative access, which can lead to data exposure, network compromise, or disruption of router operations, impacting business continuity and network security.
Solution
ASUS has released firmware updates addressing this authentication bypass vulnerability in their latest security advisory available at https://www.asus.com/content/security-advisory/. Users should update their ASUS Router firmware to the versions specified in the advisory. The update corrects Samba service access control to prevent unauthorized function execution within AiCloud. Refer to the ASUS Security Advisory for detailed patch instructions and version-specific fixes.
