CVE-2025-52488
Overview
This vulnerability is an information exposure issue rooted in improper handling of authentication protocols within the Dnn.Platform CMS. The flaw arises from the platform's SMB client implementation, which allows crafted requests to leak NTLM hashes during SMB authentication negotiation. The affected component is the SMB client interaction mechanism embedded in versions 6.0.0 through prior to 10.0.1 of Dnn.Platform.
Vulnerability Description
DNN (formerly DotNetNuke) is an open-source web content management platform (CMS) in the Microsoft ecosystem. In versions 6.0.0 to before 10.0.1, DNN.PLATFORM allows a specially crafted series of malicious interaction to potentially expose NTLM hashes to a third party SMB server. This issue has been patched in version 10.0.1.
Impact
An unauthenticated remote attacker can coerce the vulnerable Dnn.Platform instance to authenticate to a malicious SMB server, thereby exposing NTLM hashes. These hashes can be intercepted and potentially cracked offline, enabling credential theft or lateral movement within the target environment. The attack requires network access to the affected server and no user interaction, as indicated by the CVSS vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N). This can lead to significant data compromise and unauthorized access.
Solution
Users should upgrade Dnn.Platform to version 10.0.1 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched. Detailed patch instructions and advisory information are available in the official Dnn.Platform security advisory at https://github.com/dnnsoftware/Dnn.Platform/security/advisories/GHSA-mgfv-2362-jq96. No alternative workarounds are specified; applying the update is the recommended remediation step.
