CVE-2025-22604
Overview
This vulnerability is a command injection flaw rooted in improper handling of multi-line SNMP response parsing within Cacti's performance monitoring framework. Specifically, the functions ss_net_snmp_disk_io() and ss_net_snmp_disk_bytes() process SNMP OIDs without sufficient validation, using parts of the OID as keys in arrays that are subsequently incorporated into system commands. The affected component is the SNMP result parser responsible for interpreting disk I/O and byte metrics.
Vulnerability Description
Cacti is an open source performance and fault management framework. Due to a flaw in multi-line SNMP result parser, authenticated users can inject malformed OIDs in the response. When processed by ss_net_snmp_disk_io() or ss_net_snmp_disk_bytes(), a part of each OID will be used as a key in an array that is used as part of a system command, causing a command execution vulnerability. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.2.29.
Impact
An attacker with authenticated access can execute arbitrary system commands on the server hosting Cacti by injecting malicious OIDs in SNMP responses. This requires valid user credentials (PR:H) and network access to the SNMP data source. Exploitation can lead to full system compromise, data manipulation, or service disruption. The CVSS vector indicates high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact (C:H/I:H/A:H) with low attack complexity (AC:L) and no user interaction (UI:N).
Solution
Upgrade Cacti to version 1.2.29 or later, as this release includes the fix for the command injection vulnerability. Refer to the official GitHub security advisory GHSA-c5j8-jxj3-hh36 for detailed patch information and commit c7e4ee798d263a3209ae6e7ba182c7b65284d8f0 for the code changes. No alternative workarounds are documented; applying the update is the recommended remediation.
