CVE-2025-14174
Overview
This vulnerability is an out-of-bounds memory access flaw occurring within the ANGLE graphics engine component of Google Chrome on Mac platforms. The root cause lies in improper bounds checking during memory operations, allowing crafted HTML content to trigger access beyond allocated memory buffers. This flaw affects versions of Google Chrome prior to 143.0.7499.110 and involves the ANGLE subsystem responsible for translating OpenGL ES calls to native graphics APIs.
Vulnerability Description
Out of bounds memory access in ANGLE in Google Chrome on Mac prior to 143.0.7499.110 allowed a remote attacker to perform out of bounds memory access via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: High)
Impact
An attacker can execute arbitrary code remotely by convincing a user to visit a crafted webpage, enabling full compromise of the affected system without requiring authentication. This can lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, installation of malware, or persistent control over the victim's device. The attack requires only user interaction in the form of browsing to a malicious site, making it a practical vector for widespread exploitation and significant business impact including data breaches and system takeover.
Solution
Users should update Google Chrome on Mac to version 143.0.7499.110 or later as detailed in the official Google Chrome Stable Channel Update announcement dated December 10, 2025 (https://chromereleases.googleblog.com/2025/12/stable-channel-update-for-desktop_10.html). This update addresses the out-of-bounds memory access in ANGLE. Administrators are advised to follow the vendor's patch instructions in the referenced advisory to ensure remediation is properly applied.
