CVE-2024-23692
Overview
This vulnerability is a template injection flaw in Rejetto HTTP File Server versions up to 2.3m. The root cause lies in improper sanitization of user-supplied input within the server’s template processing engine, allowing untrusted data to be interpreted as executable code. The affected component is the HTTP request handling mechanism that processes template expressions embedded in client requests, enabling injection of arbitrary commands.
Vulnerability Description
Rejetto HTTP File Server, up to and including version 2.3m, is vulnerable to a template injection vulnerability. This vulnerability allows a remote, unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the affected system by sending a specially crafted HTTP request. As of the CVE assignment date, Rejetto HFS 2.3m is no longer supported.
Impact
An unauthenticated remote attacker can execute arbitrary system commands on the affected server by exploiting this template injection vulnerability. No user interaction or credentials are required to trigger the flaw. Successful exploitation can lead to full system compromise, including unauthorized access to sensitive data, control over server processes, and potential lateral movement within the network. This poses a critical threat to the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected system.
Solution
Rejetto HTTP File Server version 2.3m is no longer supported and has no official patches. Users are advised to discontinue use of this version and migrate to alternative solutions. The referenced advisories and exploit frameworks do not provide vendor-issued patches or updates. Mitigation may involve removing the vulnerable service or implementing network-level restrictions to prevent external access to the HTTP File Server. Refer to https://vulncheck.com/advisories/rejetto-unauth-rce for detailed advisory information and mitigation guidance.
