CVE-2023-49084
Overview
This vulnerability is a combined SQL Injection and insecure file inclusion flaw in the Cacti performance monitoring framework. The root cause is insufficient sanitization of user-supplied input in the link.php component, allowing manipulation of SQL queries and file paths. The flaw exists in the handling of parameters that control database queries and include file operations, enabling unauthorized code execution paths within the application.
Vulnerability Description
Cacti is a robust performance and fault management framework and a frontend to RRDTool - a Time Series Database (TSDB). While using the detected SQL Injection and insufficient processing of the include file path, it is possible to execute arbitrary code on the server. Exploitation of the vulnerability is possible for an authorized user. The vulnerable component is the `link.php`. Impact of the vulnerability execution of arbitrary code on the server.
Impact
An attacker with authorized access can execute arbitrary code on the server hosting Cacti, potentially leading to full system compromise. The prerequisite is authenticated user privileges with high access rights. This can result in unauthorized data access, service disruption, or lateral movement within the network. According to the CVSS vector (AV:N/AC:H/PR:H/UI:N), network access is required with high attack complexity and privileges, but no user interaction is needed.
Solution
Users of Cacti version 1.2.25 should apply the security updates provided in the GitHub advisory GHSA-pfh9-gwm6-86vp and the Debian LTS announcement dated March 2024. The vendor has released patches addressing the SQL injection and file inclusion issues in the link.php component. Refer to https://github.com/Cacti/cacti/security/advisories/GHSA-pfh9-gwm6-86vp for detailed patch instructions and ensure deployment of the updated version to mitigate this vulnerability.
