CVE-2023-41326
Overview
The vulnerability is an authorization bypass affecting the Kanban feature in the GLPI asset and IT management software. The root cause lies in insufficient access control checks that allow authenticated users with any profile to manipulate user fields improperly. This flaw resides within the user field modification logic of the Kanban component, enabling unauthorized modifications of user data.
Vulnerability Description
GLPI stands for Gestionnaire Libre de Parc Informatique is a Free Asset and IT Management Software package, that provides ITIL Service Desk features, licenses tracking and software auditing. A logged user from any profile can hijack the Kanban feature to alter any user field, and end-up with stealing its account. Users are advised to upgrade to version 10.0.10. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.
Impact
An attacker with any authenticated user profile can hijack other user accounts by manipulating user fields via the Kanban feature. This requires valid credentials but no elevated privileges. The attacker can gain unauthorized access to accounts, potentially leading to data theft or privilege escalation within the GLPI environment. The vulnerability has a high impact on confidentiality and integrity (CVSS vector: AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N).
Solution
Users should upgrade GLPI to version 10.0.10 as recommended in the official GLPI security advisory GHSA-5wj6-hp4c-j5q9 (https://github.com/glpi-project/glpi/security/advisories/GHSA-5wj6-hp4c-j5q9). No workarounds are available; applying the vendor-provided patch is the only effective remediation to address the authorization bypass in the Kanban feature.
