Overview
The vulnerability is a command injection flaw rooted in insufficient input validation within the web interface of Bender/ebee Charge Controllers. Specifically, certain input fields fail to properly sanitize user-supplied data, allowing shell commands to be injected and executed on the device. This affects multiple firmware versions of the CC612 and ICC15xx product lines, compromising the command processing component of the web management interface.
Vulnerability Description
In Bender/ebee Charge Controllers in multiple versions are prone to Command injection via Web interface. An authenticated attacker could enter shell commands into some input fields.
Impact
An attacker with valid credentials can execute arbitrary shell commands on the affected devices, potentially leading to full system compromise, data manipulation, or service disruption. The vulnerability requires network access to the web interface and authenticated user privileges (PR:L), with no user interaction needed (UI:N). Given the high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impacts (C:H/I:H/A:H), exploitation can result in significant operational and security consequences for organizations relying on these charge controllers.
Solution
Bender has published advisory VDE-2021-047 addressing this issue for the CC612 and ICC15xx firmware. Users should update to the fixed firmware versions specified in the advisory, which implement proper input validation and command sanitization in the web interface.
